Hi Pardons Canada I was just wondering if someone could please offer me some help. I don't know if I now have a criminal record or not. I have a peace bond for domestic assault, will this be considered a criminal offence and do i now have a criminal record as a result? Thank you. Answers By Pardons CanadaAugust 26, 2016 3:50 PM Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to submit your question to our team. A peace bond is a better outcome than a conviction for assault as it is not considered a criminal offence. However, in most cases with peace bonds, it means that you were fingerprinted by the police, went to court and the judge set a certain condition that you stay away from the individual for a certain period of time, usually about one year. Since your were fingerprinted by the police, your name can be seen on a criminal background check so its important to request a purge or file destruction of the fingerprints. Once a purge is completed, then your name will no longer show up on a police check or RCMP file (CPIC report). I hope this has helped to answer your question.
